2009 stimulus package causing higher roofing costs

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

The 2009 stimulus package that was passed by President Obama earlier this year provided a large budget to replace many of the roads in the United States.  This has lots of positive effects such as the obvious of replacing the roads and also being able to employ people to do these road updates.

The downside to these road updates is that they use a lot of asphalt and asphalt is a primary ingredient in making roofing shingles.  Rising petroleum costs contributed to some of the cost increase and asphalt is a derived from the crude oil by product of petroleum.

The price of asphalt has risen 57% from March 2008 to March 2009 and went up 3.8% from Feb to March this year alone.

Those people who are planning on replacing their roofs this summer may be paying quite a bit more then they were planning on had they done it last year as a result of this years 2009 Stimulus Package.

Good and the Bad of Alabama’s Federal Stimulus Money

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

The state of Alabama is receiving $3 Billion dollars from the US Government in this recent bailout.  This allocation is split 3 different ways

  • $1 Billion for Education
  • $1 Billion for General Government Operations
  • $1 Billion for Competitive Grants

The one area that was left out by the Alabama plan are for those Non-profit companies in the state of Alabama looking forward to receiving some cut of the Federal Stimulus bailout for each state.

These operational funds may not solve all of the problems within the state, but the operational funds allocated by the stimulus package can help create new jobs for the ailing economy.

Interest paid by the US Government

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Have you thought about how much money the United States Government spends each year on interest payments for the $10.6 Trillion dollars it owes?  About $253 Billion.   A year.  It is only going to get worse.  Those numbers haven’t factored in the $787 Billion Stimulus Bill that Obama passed this month in Denver.

Some republicans are estimating that the actual cost of the Stimulus Act is closer to $1.1 Trillion after taking into account the additional money required to service the growing debt.  Over time the payments for the debt will grow to $447 Billion in 2013 and $694 Billion in 2019.

Just be glad that isn’t your Credit Card bill.
