Obama Seeks $250 Check For Retirees And Veterans

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Earlier this month President Obama in front of congress suggested that they put together a plan that would send a second stimulus check to retirees and veterans.  This check would be sent early next year in the form of a 2010 stimulus check.

This stimulus check would be sent out instead of a cost of living increase for retirees and veterans alike.   Also a factor in the decision is that inflation has been negative as current recession that we’re in has been driving down prices of all goods in every market.

A couple weeks ago, there were some rumors going around that a second stimulus check might be in the fold, but nothing came of it.

Veterans may get a second stimulus check in 2010

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

An estimated 2 million veterans may be eligible to receive a 2nd $250 stimulus check in 2010.

President Obama thinks that a second stimulus check in 2010 would help both the economy and the veterans that received theses new checks. The plan would very similar to how stimulus checks were sent out in 2009 to those senior citizens, retired and disabled workers and the other groups that qualified.

This plan for a 2nd stimulus check would just need to get lawmakers approval and reasoning on why it would be beneficial for those that would receive it. This only applies to those veterans that are living in the United States, Puerto Rico or Guam.

This round of stimulus would cost the US Government about 13 billion dollars.

Will the $250 2009 stimulus check have to be paid back?

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Question: Will the $250 2009 stimulus check have to be paid back?

Answer: It depends. But mostly likely no, you do not have to pay back the $250 2009 stimulus check that you received this year as part of the 2009 stimulus package.

Instead of explaining why you would not have to pay back the 2009 stimulus check it is easier to explain why you would have to pay it back to the government.

There are currently 2 ways that you would have to pay back the 2009 stimulus check that you received in the mail or via direct deposit.

  1. If you are on social security and receiving social security income and received a $250 stimulus check because of that AND are also working at a job you will have to pay back the $250 stimulus check.  By working at your job you will be eligible for the $400 tax rebate that is adding additional funds to your paycheck each week.  Since you can’t double dip, you will have to repay the $250 come tax time in April 2010.
  2. If you are on social security receiving a check like the first point AND also received a military pension or other form of military check each month AND received a $250 stimulus check from both sources, you will have to pay back one of the $250 stimlus checks.  The military went through the records and tried to exclude anyone already in this category from receiving a second stimulus check in 2009.  It is possible that not every had their 2nd stimulus check not sent out.

Veterans to receive $250 Stimulus Check

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

There are nearly 2 million veterans in the United States that will be getting a 2009 stimulus check from the US Government soon.  This past Monday the Department of Veterans Affairs started to mail out many of the $250 stimulus checks being sent out to all of the eligible veterans.

Like other stimulus checks sent out in 2008 and earlier this year in 2009, these stimulus checks are tax free that are to be used to stimulate the economy.  The Department of Veterans Affairs will be sending out $500 Million dollars worth of stimulus checks to the 1.9 million veterans that qualify to receive a 2009 stimulus check.

To qualify for a $250 stimulus check from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the beneficiaries must have received some sort of VA Compensation, VA Pension, DIC (Dependency and indemnity compensation) or spina bifida benefits some time between the beginning of November 2008 and the end of January 2009.

There is no application to file for the 2009 stimulus check as the records to determine who is eligible is based on their monthly VA payments.   Those receiving checks can expect to receive them in the same manner that they receive their monthly payments, either by mail or direct deposit.
