...Information about the 2010 Stimulus Check

24 million Americans received a $250 2009 Stimulus Check on May 7, 2009

Written by admin on May 13th, 2009

On May 7, 2009 the US Government made many Americans, 24 million to be exact a little bit richer.  One of the first rounds of $250 2009 stimulus checks went out recently making up nearly half of all checks that are going out to those that are eligible.  The single day total of money injected into the American people’s pockets was about $6 Billion dollars.  This is similar to to the $250 stimulus checks going out to those on Veterans Affairs pensions and Railroad Retirement Benefits.

These checks were made possible by congress who decided that elderly and those on Social Security shouldn’t be left out on this year’s stimulus package when they decided upon the $400 ($800 married) tax break credit for those that are still in the workforce.

If you are eligible for a $250 2009 stimulus check you don’t have to do anything special to get paid.  They are being sent out automatically to those that qualify.  This money is being sent the same way as you normally would receive your social security income, either by electronic deposit or by regular mail.

People should be getting their stimulus check a few days after they are scheduled to receive their monthly benefit payout.  So just keep an eye on the mail box or online bank statement to see when your stimulus check will show up.

There is a catch with this $250 check for those that were on social security and/or are also working again.

The $250 2009 stimulus check is intended for someone who is no longer working and thus not eligible for the $400 tax rebate.  If someone who got the $250 stimulus check is currently working and makes over the minimum $6,540 in a year, they will qualify for the $400 refund and have to pay back the $250 stimulus check.  The reason for this is no double dipping is allowed, you can have one or the other but not both.

For those that are working and received the 2009 stimulus check, you will be paying back a higher then normal amount of taxes come April 2010.

This first half of the 2009 stimulus checks went out a couple days ago. The rest should be going out in the near future. I could imagine that by the end of may all of them would have gone out.

  9. I thought or for what I understood that the $250.00 stimulus checks would be our pocket. Not the county or the state could take it for what ever reason they felt they could. My wife use to work but now she is my caretaker. I am disable and on Social Security. Well I never did get to see my check. And never owed the county or state.

  14. Sue Gillot says:

I’m retired but not receiving social security. I receive a pension from work of $1,000 a month. I’m 58, will I get a check?

  15. Breanna says:

I do not understand why only people on social security get this money. I am unemployed and am really really trying to get back on my feet. I could really have used that stimulus. I have bills to pay. I read above that it says if you don’t qualify for the stimulus you should get a $400 refund on your taxes? I worked my ass off last year and paid alot in taxes, yet, I’m getting back a total of $400. That is normal. That is no extra money in my pocket like the stimulus is for everyone on ssi. I have to work to live the life that I have, to live life period. My sister who is on social security gets money from the government and now she gets this stimulus check, when everything else in her life is handed to her. She doesnt have to work for what she has like I have had to. I think it is very unfair and I think that who ever decided what to do with all this money that is being thrown about really should have thought about it more.

  17. Maxine Howell says:

My daughter works and supports two children. How does she get her stimulus payment and what is the amount she will get? Thank you.

  18. admin says:

@Maxine she isn’t going to get a 2009 stimulus check, she will just benefit from the tax rebate saving her $400 this year.

  19. admin says:

@Lynntricia the $400 that you are saving (gaining) a year is automatically being added to your paycheck each week or paycheck.

  20. admin says:

@Breanna yes, you aren’t getting a stimulus check or a tax rebate, but part of your unemployment package is that the first $2,400 of your unemployment is tax free. Normally you’d have to pay about 1/3 of that back to the government in taxes, so you are basically getting a free $800.

  21. TANISHA WILLIAMS says:

NO STIMULUS CHECK FOR THE WORKING PEOPLE OF THIS NATION, THAT IS A BUNCH OF BULL!!! WORKING EVERYDAY TO MAKE ENDS MEET AND TAKE CARE OF 3 CHILDREN ON MY OWN, WITH NO STATE ASSISTANCE!!!!!!!I KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE OUT THERE DOING IT BUT,WE CAN’T GET AT LEAST $250.00? IS THAT REALLY TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR? WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO WHEN PEOPLE ARE REWARDED FOR NOT WORKING. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE RE-EVALUATED. WE SHOULD GET SOME SORT OF REWARD NOW AND NOT HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE YEAR TO GET IT!!!!!!!

  22. admin says:

@tanisha you are getting more money, $150 more for a total of $400 spread out over the course of the year. by now with it being june you should have gotten an extra $150 or so of it.

  23. G. Berry says:

I am a veteran and I also receive social security benefits. I haven’t received a stimulus check in the mail — or has one been deposited into our bank account that we have set up for direct deposits.

How do we verify that…….???? we are to receive such?????

    Will it be sent later?

  24. Paula and Gordon Davenport says:

    I didn’t and don’t understand the 2009 stimulas check/tax credit.
I’m retired and drawing social security. My husband has a railroad retirement (and works a part time job) therefore, my payments are handeled through the Railroad Retirement Board. We (neither one of us) received an extra $250 from the Railroad Retirement Board and do not know if we qualify for the tax credit. When speaking with the Railroad Retirement Services they can never offer any explanations. Will you advize?

  25. concerned parent says:

I HEARD RUMORS THAT THERE MAY BE A SECOND STIMULUS IN THE LATER PART OF 2009. SORT OF LIKE AN EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT. IS THIS TRUE? IF IT IS WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT. CHRISTMAS IS COMING, AND ALL MY EXTRA MONEY IS GOING TOWARDS BILLS. WHAT IS A PERSON SUPPOSED TO DO?

  26. Tracey says:

my husband is in the army and has been to iraq 2 times already can you tell me why he is not entitle to a stimulas check. he can put his life on the line for his country but cant get any money for it what a shame

  27. Lawrence Beck says:

We just had our taxes figured. We owed the federal government $401. When we figured in the $250 stimulus check I received, we owe the government $650 — exactly $250 more! How is that possible?
